  KUCHING INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (WBGG)
PROPOSED NEW ROYAL MALAYSIA POLICE AIR OPERATIONS FORCE BASE, SARAWAK

1  INTRODUCTION

1.1  This AIRAC AIP Supplement is to notify the aviation industry of the construction works associated with the new Royal Malaysia Police Air Operations Force Base at Kuching International Airport, Sarawak.

1.2  The duration of overall construction is sixty-six (66) months FM 15th December 2021 TIL 30th June 2027 EST, of which this new Royal Malaysia Police Air Operations Force Base will replace the old base.

1.3  This publication provides information on the scope schedule and operational impact of the works within the vicinity of Kuching International Airport.

2  SCOPE OF WORKS

2.1  The scope of works prescribed for the above exercise are as follows (Appendix 1 – Overall Layout and Appendix 2 – Layout Scope of Works):

  1. Soil investigation, earthwork and drainage works.

  2. New Parking Apron on elevated platform to accommodate one (1) Code B aircraft stand with power-in/power out operations and one (1) helicopter stand.

  3. New Exit Taxiway for Code B aircraft operations with 10.5 m wide on ground and elevated platform to connect the new parking apron to the existing runway.

  4. New Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) installation and High Mast

  5. New Hangar

  6. New Administration Building.

  7. New Storm Shelter.

  8. New Engine Ground Run and Wash Bay

  9. New Multi-Purpose Hall

  10. New Guard House.

  11. New Road and Car Park facilities.

  12. Airside and Landside Drainage

  13. Other Ancillary Buildings.

3  PHASINGS AND WORK PROGRAMME

3.1  The works programme is divided into two (2) main phases. (Appendix 3 – Layout of Works for Phase 1 and Phase 2):

  1. Landside Area: Phase 1 & Phase 2 (Zone A)

    Involves piling, excavation, structural and pavement works for construction partial of new exit taxiway, new elevated parking apron, hangar facilities and other supporting buildings facilities.

  2. Airside Area: Phase 2 (Zone B and Zone C)

    Involves piling, excavation, structural and pavement works for construction of new exit taxiway, airside drainage, perimeter road, Aeronautical Ground Lighting and other associated works.

  3. The tentative works are scheduled as follows:

  4. Construction works for Phase 1 and Phase 2 – Zone A (i.e. outside runway strip) will be carried out during normal airport operational hours or up to twenty-four (24) hours.

  5. Construction works for Phase 2 - Zone B and Zone C (i.e. within runway strip and infringe the OLS) will be carried out during runway closure schedule from 1700 – 2100 UTC Daily.

4  PRECAUTIONS

4.1  Pilots are advised to take note of the precautions on the presence of open excavation, workers, construction materials and construction equipment, particularly while works within the areas are in progress.
